The Introvert’s Superpowers:

I love to write. I am not a good or experienced writer. But, I love to write. Because I love words. Words are our connections to one another. Tone and inflection are also important, but they are sidebars to the actual word.

Words matter. I have never been a believer in “Sticks and Stones…” In fact, words are often the cause of the broken bones. Think about it. The truly evil break bones without being prompted or angered by harsh threatening words.

As a bona fide, card-carrying Introvert, writing is how I communicate. But I didn’t always know this. I have spent the better part of my life not being able to effectively communicate. I have always struggled to feel heard and understood.

Then I found the word “Introvert”. Like most people I described introverts as reclusive, hermits, loners etc… That is not accurate. I have been and continue to research this word and meaning. My favorite source is Susan Cain’s Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that can’t stop talking. I found myself checking off 100% of the characteristics she identified and defined. In finding out about myself… I found myself! It was like letting out a long held breath.

Many of the characteristics of the introvert are like “Superpowers” and you have to be committed to using them for good.

This is the beginning of a blog to redefine the introvert. Share stories of the introvert. Connect with other introverts. And, most of all embrace the privilege of being an introvert.

There is a lot to unpack. I do believe I have always been an introvert. But I never knew. In discovering this new profile that seems to identify me, it has prompted me to go back to childhood memories and view them with this new filter. (or lifted filter). I have learned a lot, but also know there is so much more to uncover. But that does not mean I cannot start using this superpower for good.

That is where writing, and becoming a better writer comes in. Looking back, it has always been my best solution for communicating. Conflict with a loved one? Write a letter. Concern or issue with an employer? Document before discussing. Education? I was always the student hoping for the essay exam rather than fill in the blank or true or false.

Welcome to a space to write, communicate, share, ask, learn, inspire and support. Whatever that looks like. I am highlighting being, knowing and learning what it means to be an introvert. But there is plenty of space to create, motivate and share other inspiring topics.

Three Rules:

Kindness and Kind Words…period, I am a freak about kindness

Humor: Huge fan of humor and convinced it makes a difference

Sarcasm: Highly encouraged. Introverts tend to be highly skilled in sarcasm. I learned from the best. Bring it!

Everything Matters,

MJ
